  1. I have the same front 3 as you. I also have Adventures of Tintin and Mission: Impossible. The Mission: Impossible prediction is just the fan of the film in me predicting it, but I definitely think it is a possibility.

    1. I've heard good things about Ghost Protocol, so you may get your fan wish! It was really hard for me to not put Tintin into the top 5, and I'll probably end up being wrong. But I just get the feeling that all of the details that went into the Ape sounds could pull off a nomination here.

  2. If I may kindly ask, what is the difference between Sound Editing and Sound Mixing?

    1. Great question Anonymous! I almost did an introductory paragraph about this, but ran out of time. I still may do one before the ceremony.

The easiest way that I've heard of it is that Sound Editing is the creation of new sounds (often in the studio), where as Sound Mixing is the combination (mixing) of sounds, and particularly different sound tracks.

So for example, If you have a fictional monster, or a car wreck, or the sound of a space ship whooshing or lazer guns, you have to create those, and that is sound editing. Sci-Fi films often do really well in the Sound Editing category.

In contrast, say that you have a musical like Dreamgirls or Chicago, what you want to do is "mix" together the music track with the dialogue track. That's also how The King's Speech got in under Sound Mixing.

Of course, there is a lot or cross-over of films that got in under both categories, and they often have 3 or 4 of the same nominees in common each year. To be honest, I can't really tell the difference if I am just watching (or listening to) a movie. But if I think about the places where there is a difference, then it helps a little bit.

    1. Thanks my friend! My goal is to update most of the top categories for the 85th during the month between the nominations and the ceremony itself.
