The Academy Members Project A

Updated: 7/27/2015

Pictured: With his high profile as an auteur, you may have guessed that director Pedro Almodovar would be an Oscar voter.  But to truly understand how the Academy works you shouldn’t forget that his younger brother Agustin was also invited to join the producers branch in 2007. Agustin has produced almost all of Pedro’s films, and been nominated for seven BAFTA’s, of which he won three of them.

As a reminder, Bold font is for confirmed AMPAS members that we are able to document conclusively. Standard font is for confirmed invitees, most of whom presumably accept. Italic font is for those believed to be members, but whose status has not been verified. Members who have passed away are shown using the same system, but in GOLD, and those whose biography is still being researched are in PINK. Read why we are so cautious HERE.

  1. So does Amy Adams or any other member get to vote in their own category?

    1. In most categories they do indeed get to vote for themselves - both in the nomination stage and the winners stage.

There are a few of the technical categories that have "bake-offs" with slightly different rules in the nomination stage. I know that in best song, for example, members who have a song in contention can't vote in the nomination stage, but can vote for themselves for the win.

But for actors, it's fair game!

    1. Thanks Sam! I did worry a little that by taking on such a big project the number of posts that I could do would per week would decrease. That has happened a bit, but I think it is worth it, and hopefully will only be temporary once I have the whole alphabet up.
