I've never tried a live blog before, so I don't know if this will be a success or not. I tend to be more the type of person who likes to sit and analyze things a bit, so stay tuned later today and this week for real analysis. For now, I'll just post random exclamations during the very brief live nomination ceremony.
Is something wrong with my clock? Why aren't they starting?
Ah! There we go! Three minutes to air! Hopefully I'll get a few right!
Great music!
Lawrence looks great!
OMG McCarthy made it!
Max Von Sydow for Extremely Loud!
Glenn Close and Rooney Mara make it in!
Demian Bechir! I Love It... And now Gary Oldman too!
TREE OF LIFE!!!! MALICK!!!
Margin Call and A SEPARATION! HURRAY! screenplay.
Bullhead. Footnote. In Darkness. Monsieur Lazhar. A Separation,
TWO foreign films for animated. NO TINTIN!
TREE OF LIFE MAKES IT INTO BEST PICTURE!!!!! I CAN DIE HAPPY NOW!!!
Extremely Loud makes it in out of nowhere for best picture! A total of Nine nominees!
I almost got the best picture correct. I predicted the first 8, but had Ides Of March as 9 and ELAIC as number 10.
Looking over the list of snubs now... Leonardo Dicaprio and Michael Fassbender. Tilda Swinton and Charlize Theron. In Supporting: Albert Brooks, Armie Hammer, Brad Pitt, Shailene Woodley.
I went 5 for 5 in the directors!
Only two songs made it in, and I predicted them both wrong. GRRRRR..
Harry Potter gets 3 noms... Makeup, Visual Effects and Art Direction.
My final thought--How do I get to be one of the people screaming in the audience?
More analysis to come later today!!!
Unbelievable, Tintin not getting in. Though they have never liked motion capture.
ReplyDeleteLots of people said that the animators wouldn't like it, but I still thought it would sneak in. really surprised.
DeleteGood on Gary Oldman though. Great actor
ReplyDeleteI'm really glad that I decided to see it last weekend!
DeleteFUCK! "The Tree of Life" was Awful (I wrote about it here:http://www.tapuz.co.il/blog/net/ViewEntry.aspx?EntryId=2072966)! well, at least "Footnote" and "TTSS" are getting some recodnition.
ReplyDeleteHaha. Sorry that you didn't like The Tree Of Life. I did let out a scream in your honor when they announced Footnote!
DeleteWould you please check out my "Tree of Life" review?
DeleteJust checked it out now. Although I liked it more than you did, I actually agree with most of the points you make about it. It's definitely not for a general audience. I'm glad to see it in the mix though, as I think the Oscars should ideally reward many different types of films.
DeleteGo von Sydow!!!! Might he get it for old times sake maybe???
ReplyDeleteI had him predicted earlier in the year, but gave up on him too soon. Still need to see the movie!
DeleteHow did I not realize until now that he is Swedish? I mean, not just a Swedish last name, but actually born in Sweden! Congrats Joel!
DeleteSo, Hugo got the most nominations with 11. Artist with 10. Daylight second. I'm also surprised by only 2 nominations for Original Song, I'm sure theres a reason for that that I'm missing. Hope to see your track record for all these soon. Seems you've done pretty well!!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm surprised by the two songs also. I'll be doing analysis later today!
ReplyDeleteNo Albert Brooks,Tilda Swinton ,Michael Fassbender and Shailene Woodley..I would be happy if Kirsten Dunst got nominated than Rooney Mara which i felt was not that great compared to Noomi Rapace
ReplyDeleteI think the most disappointing miss for me was Fassbender (although I was also one of he people who really liked J. Edgar too).
