  1. Melissa Joan Hart is an Academy member?!? Am I looking at that correct? I looked over her filmography at the IMDb. Her most famous movie credits are "Drive Me Crazy", "God's Not Dead 2" and "Recess: School's Out". How in the world did she even get in?

    1. I was a bit surprised myself. But we found an article from a local newspaper in her hometown, the Belleville News-Democrat that said she was watching screeners in preparation for voting for the Oscars, so I added her. (Unfortunately, that article has since disappeared behind a subscription page, but I've left the dead link in case we're ever able to track down a printed copy).

I'm still looking for a second source of confirmation, since it's always possible that the article got it wrong. But presuming that article is right, then she probably got in during her Sabrina the Teenage Witch years. There have been several points during the Academy's history when they've used some smaller film credits (like Drive Me Crazy) to get in people who are better known for tv. It's also possible that she was part of one of the Academy's earlier diversity pushes where they were trying to add younger "hipper" people to the membership rolls.

    2. I would love to see more evidence. I wonder if maybe perhaps the writer of the article was mistaken and she was actually voting for either the Emmys or the SAG's which would make more sense. Lindsay Lohan would have actually made more sense as an Academy member because she has a solid filmography before it all went to crap.

    3. I'm with you: I'd love to see more too. But these sources are awfully hard to come by, as you can imagine. I hope someone can get another interview with her and ask her directly.

You're right that the article could have gotten it wrong though, so I've downgraded her to italic font instead of bold to signal that.
