I have been working with Oscar predictions for 7 years, and I really like yours, but even an predix amateur must put The Hobbit in frontrunning position in the Art Direction and Makeup categories. Seriously. Those are the two you just don't miss.

    Overall good job.

Thanks for checking out my blog, lime_vortep. If you've been watching for 7 years you must have seen lots of these sites come and go, so hopefully I can keep mine running.

I'll probably move the Hobbit up for these categories in the next round. My only rationale, as the new kid on the block, is that I kept wondering whether at some point there might be (another) backlash against this franchise.

It's not necessarily a comment on the quality of the craft work. But whether it is a result of voter fatigue from giving LOTR:TROTK 11 wins (!), or simply making Jackson's team wait until the next installment, I keep thinking we will see a dip in nominations and wins for The Hobbit 1: An Unexpected Journey.

    LOTR:TFOTR got 13 nominations and won 4.
    LOTR:TTT got 6 nominations and won 2.
LOTR:TROTK got 11 nominations and won all 11.

Art Direction may be the wrong category to move the Hobbit out of, since the trilogy got nominations for each installment. But then again, maybe that branch felt that they needed to keep nominating them until they had won, and now that they have...??

Makeup, on the other hand, seems a little more up for grabs given the smaller number of nominees in that category--and in 2002 they not only snubbed TTT but settled for 2 nominees in order to do so!

That makes me think that at least some academy members and branches are going to be looking hard for ways to spread the wealth to other pictures, or at least limit the number of nominations for the rest of this series. It's just a hunch.

Thanks again for checking me out!

I think the new Hobbit pictures of the dwarfs proves my point that the movie must be a front runner in makeup and in the 5 for costumes.

Thanks for the Hobbit pictures. I hadn't seen them yet. They certainly do look great, and also seem different enough from what was done in the trilogy to count as an "original" work, which was one of my concerns. I'll likely move The Hobbit up in my next set of predictions.

Thanks again for being such a loyal reader!

I'll be updating my own predix tomorrow. Check them out if you want (sorry that they are in BG but you still can see what's what from the pictures)
