What I Saw: Bridesmaids (84th Oscar Race)

EDITORS NOTE: These predictions were made in May 2011 and reflect what my thinking was at that time.  I have updated my predictions since then, but leave these on the blog for a historical record. For the most updated list of predictions, go to the Tracker Pages in the upper right hand corner of this blog.

What I Saw: Bridesmaids

Oscar Chances: The Oscars are not kind to comedies. You may be someone who loves the Oscars for exactly this reason, or someone who complains about the Oscars for exactly this reason, but the fact remains: The Oscars are not kind to comedies.

Unless, of course, the costume design branch recognizes that fashion can indeed have a sense of humor. In which case, Leesa Evans and Christine Wada might make the long list (currently ranked 45). The creativity and diversity of costumes that they used (particularly dresses) not only added to the humor but also helped to visually establish a distinct personality for each performer at each stage of the film.

Bridesmaids will, however, be nominated at the Golden Globes for Best Comedy and Best Actress in a Comedy (Kristen Wiig).

As always, check the Tracker Pages in the upper right hand corner of this blog for the most updated predictions in all categories!
