OSCAR DAY!

It’s officially Oscar Day, and I’ll be using this page to update the winners as the ceremony progresses. And because I specialize in early predictions, I have also included my year in advance predictions of what will win for NEXT YEAR.

You can also follow me on twitter @NeverTooEarlyMP, where I will try to give some additional impressions throughout the night.

And just for fun, check out what I’ll be treated to for my Oscar Night Dinner Menu. Of course, we decided to include some LAMB in honor of my favorite movie blogging association, where you can find additional articles on all of the categories and nominees in their series, The LAMB Devours The Oscars, as well as our collective thoughts on who should have won in the LIONS For LAMBS Awards, and links to our LAMB Scores for every movie in 2011. And if you forgot to pick up music for your Oscar party, you can listen to all of the Oscar eligible songs submitted from this year’s films, including those that didn’t make the top five two.

My Track Record:  13/24. I'll do more statistics and analysis soon, as well as continue predictions for next year. For now, it looks like in my first year of making predictions I did better at picking the nominees (69.75%) than the winners (54.17%). Still, I won't give up, and look forward to sharing my thoughts with you as we move into next year. The Oscars are over. Long Live The Oscars!

  2. I love that you're already predicting for next year. Very cool! Haven't read anything like that on anyone else's blog this year yet. I share many of your predictions, although I'm rooting for Dujardin over Clooney for Best Actor. Nice post!

    1. Thanks Kristin! The early predictions are kind of my trademark. They're not always correct, but I sure do enjoy making them!

  6. Well at least you got over 50%, and most of the major ones right.

    1. Indeed, Plus we both got A Separation.

I'm actually happy about some of the winners that I didn't predict, as it shows that the Acdemy may be changing faster than I previously thought. Dujardin and Dragon Tattoo's film editing award, for example, are really deserved. I was just not sure whether the older academy members would go for them.

And while I would have loved to see Viola win, there was a lot of excited screaming in my house to get to see a Meryl win in my adult lifetime, as I am a true fanboy of hers!

  7. Well I got 11 right out of the 15 I predicted, not bad eh? Looks like we both got it right about The Artist, and I'm happy w/ their win. Btw, did you enjoy the ceremony?

    1. Good job Ruth!

On the whole, I did enjoy the show, but there weren't many scripted moments that I found to be that good. I liked Crystal's opening montage, as well as the Cirque Du Soleil act and Chris Rock, and I thought it was good casting to have the Bridesmaids cast present the shorts, because even if their jokes weren't that funny, they at least got the masses to sit through these awards rather than use the time to go refill their drinks.

I personally found that Crystal's song number and his "What Are They Thinking" felt a little off too me. I realize that he had to do them as part of his brand, but it had this wierd feeling like returning to a nostalgic memory and finding that it wasn't quite as exciting as you used to remember.

But overall, you can bet I'll still be watching next year!

  8. You did pretty solid NTEMP.

I dont think anyone saw Meryl Streep stealing this one! And Clooney Dujardin was a toss up, I'd love to see if it was actually close!

    1. Thanks Fogs! I always wish that they would release the scores, but if they did then I'd probably complain that they'd taken all the mystery out of it!
