New Poll: What Should I See Next?

Last week I saw Drive and Moneyball. (Reviews coming soon.)

I’m thinking that Take Shelter and 50/50 are at the top of the list, but perhaps you’ll surprise me? Vote for your favorite in the comments.

50/50; Abduction; The Black Power Mixtape 1967-1975; Bunraku; Circumstance;

Dolphin Tale; Dream House; The Guard; I Don’t Know How She Does It; Killer Elite

Love Crime; Machine Gun Preacher; Mozart’s Sister; The Mill And The Cross; My Afternoons With Margueritte

Mysteries Of Lisbon; Point Blank; Restless; Sarah’s Key; Senna

Straw Dogs; Take Shelter; Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil; We Were Here; What’s Your Number?

If your favorite movie isn’t here, feel free to recommend it anyway. It’s possible that it is not showing in my area, or that I have already seen it, but it’s also possible that you’ll become my new best friend for having recommended something new.

  1. Thanks BaguioBoy. I hear that Take Shelter is pretty good, and I currently have Michael Shannon ranked 7 on my Best Actor predictions. I'm thinking that he and Fassbender in Shame will be battling it out for the Indie vote this season.

  2. 50/50. it sounds like one of those Indie films that get a nomination for original screenplay.

  4. @Anonymous. 50/50 does sound good, and I've got JGL at #9 and Original screenplay at #14, so it's definitely in the conversation.

@Castor, Take Shelter is definitely the one I'm most looking forward to. It's in limited release, so I'm praying that it actually shows this week (the art house theater near me still hasn't posted their films for the weekend online--Why do they taunt me so?)

  5. Out of all those choices I'd go with 50/50. It's high on my list, but I'm a bit behind. I still have to see Contagion and Drive.

  6. Thanks Colleen! I'm thinking 50/50 may indeed be the one I get to see this weekend.

  8. Thanks Asif! I ended up seeing 50/50. I saw Drive last weekend, and am still working on my review of it. Unfortunately, Take Shelter didn't open in my area yet. The posters said it would open, but it wasn't actually showing yet.

Thanks for checking out my blog!

  9. I know I'm a little late for this, but Bunraku is such a complete fiasco that it needs to be seen.

Imagine ninjas, cowboys, Woody Harrelson being Woody Harrelson, Ron Perlman chewing up scenery in a bizarre performance as a.. well... I'm not 100% sure, Japanese Pop Stars in acting debuts, a visual palette which is like Sucker Punch by way of Scott Pilgrim with 30's style sets, the origin story of Spider Man being used as an inspiring mythical like tale, and the director's bizarre fascination with pop up books.

While the absolute insanity of the film wears off towards the end into boredom, if you're a fan of "so bad it's good movies" you'll probably enjoy it.

Oh yeah, and "Take Shelter" looks really good too!

  10. Thanks David. I'll admit I hadn't paid much attention to Bunraku, but really appreciate the recommendation (of sorts-HA!).

Sounds like something I might catch on video. I actually enjoyed Scott Pilgrim, so I might like this as well!
