86th Oscar Supporting Actress Updates (2013-2014 Awards Season) (12/9/2013)

If you want to boost the Oscar ratings and have the whole country break down in tears, then there’s really only one person who can win the Supporting Actress award. Just don’t do something foolish like giving it out at the beginning of the ceremony: Make us wait for it!

When Oprah Winfrey, the goddess of television, teams up with Harvey Weinstein, the god of Oscar campaigning, then you can be pretty sure where this race will be heading come March. I suspect that there will be tons of critics groups trying to draw attention to the other (entirely worthy) competitors before then, but at the end of the day the motion picture business is, in fact, a business. 1. Such a shock that Oprah didn't even get a Golden Globes nomination.

    1. I still think the more American academy will go for her, but I was definitely surprised. It certainly keeps things interesting, doesn't it?
